Howie Doyle - Human Form

For several years I was deeply involved in writing, playing and recording original music. At the time I was doing it for therapy – it was literally a survival tactic so I could keep my head on straight and be the rock that my family needed... and it was surprisingly effective. I learned something very important in the process: practicing art (in this case music) with motivation and intent has more than just aesthetic benefits. It is healing, spiritually invigorating, and for me it was a catalyst in establishing a link with God; it provided a forum for dialogue. It primed the pump when the well seemed otherwise dry. Painting, Always With Intent... I paint the people, things, emotions I feel most intensely... In the words of artist Gerrit Verstraete: "If good art is to remain good medicine for the human spirit, it must remain firmly rooted in our relationships. In the 'high art' of curatorial criticism, relationships are discarded for the sake of abstract archival critique that seldom touches anyone anywhere but in the intellect." Mindful to touch the heart, I will aspire as Van Gogh did, "I hope I shall be able to make some drawings in which there is something human." Many of these oil paintings are available for purchase.
