Karen Power myspace.com/karenpower | Contemporary Music Center Ireland grounded Sound Art DVD by Karen Power, Sinead Dinneen and Maria Finucane (2006) This is a collaborative piece of sound and video art based on Mary Immaculate College. Mary I was founded in 1898 and most of the main buildings date from well before that. This piece looks at some of the values and traditions that have been continued throughout the college’s existence. All three artists were employed at MIC during the creation of this piece and all video footage and audio samples were obtained on the premises. The piece exists as an installation. It should be exhibited in a fully darkened space using four large screens (see diagram). It consists of four journeys taken from four different angles (front, back, left and right). These journeys are then arranged as four separate images to be shown simultaneously. The audio moves between the images and sometimes finds its own direction. Duration: 14’30’’
